It’s Art Deco and I’m in love.

I’ve recently been reading a lot of Art Deco in the Philippines for two of my classes and I am absolutely in love! I don’t know about you but I think this style was so well-adapted into our own historical narrative with its exotic details. It’s because of the second generation architects trained in the US. They brought home a new style and injected Filipino details on to the embellishments. It’s quite a different flavor than the Streamline Moderne popularized abroad.

Javellana, R. (2006). Foreign Influences. Filipino style. Singapore: Archipelago Press.
See what I mean? It’s just amazing!

THIS IS WHY I’m so excited with the movie Great Gatsby with all the fabulous clothes, architecture and glamour of the 1920s. Leonardo di Caprio will always be my first Hollywood Crush because of Romeo+Juliet♥ The fonts, the metallics and the lights = A visual feast!

Oh yes, I am very aware of the Golden Age Fallacy.
