I have definitely noticed the rise of the D.I.Y. everything. From clothes, furniture, easy home fixes to elaborate crafts. It’s very interesting to know the implications of this to the market and also to the Design Industry.
I’ll get back to you with the differences of mainstream, fad and trend. I think it’s all related to this hipster community of young people who are also big on going green. I have a love-hate relationship with this niche market but the thought of highly personalized things of value is something to be studied.
One bad thing: there’s this trend with interiors that all look the same. From Pinterest to nice quaint little places all want to exude this country-home style. Please. Enough ghost/ lucite chairs. You’ve ruined it for me.
It’s not about the mass-produced things anymore.
